Acne
What even is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. It primarily affects areas of the skin with a high concentration of oil glands, such as the face, chest, back, and shoulders. Acne can manifest in various forms, including blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, and nodules.
How does it develop?
Acne develops through excess oil production, abnormal shedding of dead skin cells, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation. Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during puberty, menstruation, or hormonal imbalances, can also play a role in acne formation. Additionally, certain factors like genetics, stress, diet, and certain medications can contribute to the severity and frequency of breakouts.
Effects?
Acne can have physical and emotional effects on individuals, as it can cause pain, discomfort, and self-consciousness. It may leave behind scars or hyperpigmentation, impacting one’s self-esteem and overall well-being.
Treatments?
Fortunately, various treatment options are available to manage and control acne. These may include over-the-counter creams or cleansers containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, prescription medications like topical retinoids or oral antibiotics, and in some cases, isotretinoin (commonly known as Accutane which is what we provide). Additionally, lifestyle changes such as adopting a consistent skincare routine, maintaining a balanced diet, and managing stress levels can help improve acne symptoms.
